DoubleScroll 2.0 is a combination Extension/Control Panel which alters the way your Macintosh scroll bars look and act. Basically it puts a double arrow on each end of your scroll bars, allowing you to scroll in both directions without having to move your mouse from one end of your desk to the other to scroll back and forth. It works only with System 7, and is designed to take advantage of the color scheme of the System 7 interface.

Though the idea of double-arrowed scroll bars is not new, I decided to give it a new twist with System 7 and make them look identical to the standard scroll bars when displaying in color as well as black and white. They look like genuine Apple-issued scroll bars. So they窶冤l blend right in with the rest of your interface without standing out and looking odd. If you change the color scheme of your windows with the 窶廚olor窶 Control Panel that comes with System 7, the scroll bars will change with the rest of your decor! These are scroll bars the way nature intended (and I feel Apple should implement).

When space starts to get tight, you will notice that the scroll bars will lose their double nature and revert to the normal way of doing business, just to give the thumb (the little box) a little breathing space. You can set the distance at which the scroll bars revert to single arrows in the Control Panel if you don窶冲 like the default setting of 160 pixels.

Option-clicking the arrows will act as a page up/page down. This saves even more mouse movement. Instead of moving your mouse up to the top of a scroll bar (let's say the thumb is near the top) to page up, you could just option-click!

Command-clicking the arrows will act as a home/end feature. This means if you command-click the up arrow, you will immediately jump to the beginning of your document, and if you command-click the down arrows, you will immediately jump to the end of your document.

In version 2.0, DoubleScroll also has an option to let you scroll the contents of a window while you are dragging the thumb along. This is useful if you have a very long document that you need to scroll from top to bottom, or vice versa.
Holding the option key while dragging will temporarily toggle this option; i.e. if the option is off, the option key would turn it on and vice-versa.

DoubleScroll 2.0 also allows you to change the scrolling speed and the scrolling delay. These settings are analogous to keyboard repeat rate and delay, respectively. These setting could be a blessing if you own a fast CPU such as a Quadra which can scroll really fast, possible faster than you would like. You could slow the scrolling speed down so you could actually see the text as it's scrolling, instead of a big blur.

All changes made to DoubleScroll in the control panel take effect immediately after closing it. This can be helpful if you want to adjust the scrolling speed or add an application to the incompatible application list (see 窶弩orking the Control Panel窶) or even turn DoubleScroll off completely!
